Dichotomy of Light and Dark -D

Things are not always as they seem. Just because you wear the white hat doesn't mean you're the good guy. Just because you ride the black horse doesn't mean you're the bad guy. In this self-portrait exercise, I wanted to explore the expectations our society has concerning color. What if white was the holder of death? What if dark was the bringer of hope? It may not be what you expect.


This was a project done for my black and white (film) photography class. We had to do a 'self portrait' and explore an alternate personality of ours. My False Vagabond series was also a product of this assignment. It is filed under "conceptual" partially because the quality of the scan makes it even more important to ignore quality over the idea It was extremely difficult to set up the shot, hit the timed shutter release, run around and get situated without getting the light spinning all over the place and ruining the shot.
